The short version: WhatToDo doesn't require an account, doesn't collect your email or password, and keeps most of your personal data on your device. When we do store something on our servers, we tell you exactly what and why below.
WhatToDo is a group activity decision app operated by Potomac Digital Studio LLC, a Maryland limited liability company. The app is available at whattodotoday.app and on the Apple App Store.
✓ No account required. No email address. No password.
✓ No payment information — ever.
✓ No selling or sharing of data with third parties for marketing.
✓ No tracking across apps or websites.
✓ Your preferences, session history, and most profile data stay on your device.
The following data is stored locally on your device and never sent to our servers:
To enable real-time group features, the following is stored in our Firebase database:
If you choose to use GPS detection, your device coordinates are sent securely to our servers to identify your city and find nearby places. Coordinates are used only for that request and are not permanently stored or logged. The city name is stored with your session data and deleted when the session is cleaned up.
When you start a session, your city, category, and general preferences are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate place suggestions. No personally identifiable information is included in these requests. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to data processed by their API.
WhatToDo uses Apple Maps to search for places near you and Apple WeatherKit to display current weather. Your city and coordinates are sent to Apple's servers for these features. Apple's privacy policy applies to data processed by their services.
If you allow push notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service to send you updates about your groups — such as when voting starts, when results are ready, or when someone joins your group. You can disable notifications at any time in your iPhone Settings.
When you tap "Open in Maps" or a calendar button, you leave WhatToDo and enter a third-party service such as Apple Maps, Apple Calendar, or Google Calendar. WhatToDo does not share any data with these services beyond the place name and event details you chose to open. Their own privacy policies apply.
If you submit a bug report through the app, it includes your message, the screen you were on, your app version, device model, and iOS version. This is stored in our database for review. It does not include your name or any personal information unless you choose to include it in your message.
WhatToDo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.
You can delete your on-device data at any time by clearing the app's data in your iPhone Settings or uninstalling the app. To delete your profile photo or any server-side data (group membership, session history), contact us and we will remove it within 7 days. You can also leave any group directly in the app, which removes your membership from that group.
If we change how we handle data, we will update this policy and the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
